Stage fright

I knew it. I knew that the speech would be bad. I knew stage fright would occur. I knew the mayor’s wife would not be as brave as her husband. I knew it all along. But what happened after that I never expected!
I was putting my best outfit for the speech. The mayor’s wife was giving the answers to all our problems. Our small city is suffering millions and millions of problems including the mayor’s illness.
“Here comes Miss Elegenda!”. The audience gave a standing ovation upon hearing the name. Out came the “Princess”. The face was so beautiful, the skin was so smooth and the hair was so long and the eyes were flustering with shyness. She had a vivid personality. My eyes were glued to her beauty, I was agape with disbelief.
“Nice?” I heard a boy’s voice. My head turned in curiosity. It was the Colin Creevy. My school mate. “Ya!” I replied. Suddenly, Cho – Creevy’s crush came. She turned and looked at the mayor’s wife and frowned. She then whispered, “Who do you think is more beautiful? She?” pointed to Miss Elegenda, “or me?”
“Uhh…” I started, but Creevy piped in. “You my lady! You!” he bowed. Cho flushed and ran away into the crowd.
             The speech started!
“Welcomm…e..!” the wife said with a twist of nervousness. “I want t…to..ggive…th….the answers to yo…your answers!” What? I shrugged! “No! Answers cannot be given for answers!” I shrugged again. Creevy stifled a laugh. The audience gave an unwelcome noise.
Miss Elegenda was “e-legend-a” and here she was shivering with fright. I nodded disapprovingly. I whispered to Creevy, “This is bad! Really bad!”. His head moved up and down.
Miss Elegenda did not know what to do. She had fully memorised the words but was not as brave as her brave husband, Mr. Lender, the kindest person ever. She was scared if the audience was going to laugh at her like last year in Avantia.
I sighed loudly, It had been three minutes and no word came out of that trembling ice pop! She started to talk again. “The robber…rey will ….be.e…solved” Everyone clapped to cheer her on. Miss Elegenda started to feel better and she started talking briskly, more bravely and more firmly. I smiled as I listened to the sweet voice of hers.
After she was done, Miss Elegenda stood and bowed. She had been successful into thinking. She was the best speaker. She had done it!
I was dumbfounded. She spoke so well. I bet my ears were dancing to the rhythm of the speech. I sighed happily and went home.
